Rubrik Buys Predibase to Accelerate AI Agent Adoption in Enterprise Cloud Environments
June 25, 2025 – Cybersecurity and cloud data protection company Rubrik has announced the acquisition of Predibase, a developer-focused AI startup that helps enterprises fine-tune and deploy open-source large language models (LLMs).
While the exact financial terms were undisclosed, CNBC reports the deal is estimated to be between $100 million and $500 million. The move is part of Rubrik’s broader push to deepen its capabilities in AI agent development and secure data orchestration.
Why Rubrik Acquired Predibase
Founded in 2021 by Devvret Rishi, Piero Molino, and Travis Addair, Predibase has gained attention for its flexible ML platform that allows businesses to train and customize open-source LLMs like LLaMA, Mistral, and Mixtral for their specific needs.
With backing from Greylock, Felicis Ventures, and Sancus Ventures, Predibase has raised over $28 million to date.
Rubrik, which went public in April 2024 after raising more than $1.6 billion in venture capital from firms like Lightspeed, Khosla Ventures, and IVP, will integrate Predibase’s tools to expand support for building AI agents across Amazon Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, and Google Agentspace.
“When paired with secure platforms like Rubrik’s, [Predibase’s] capabilities can be transformative,” said Bipul Sinha, Rubrik CEO. “They help ensure that trusted data powers responsible and impactful AI.”
Strategic Context: A Race to Empower AI Agents
Rubrik’s acquisition comes amid a wave of AI-focused M&A activity as enterprise software firms scramble to lead in the AI agent ecosystem:
- Salesforce acquired Informatica for $8 billion in May
- Snowflake picked up Crunchy Data earlier this month
- Collibra acquired Raito to reinforce its governance model
These deals signal a growing emphasis on embedding intelligent agents into enterprise workflows, particularly in data-sensitive sectors.
What This Means for Developers and Data Teams
The integration of Predibase will enable Rubrik users to:
- Customize LLMs more efficiently for internal tools and automations
- Keep sensitive enterprise data secure while training agents
- Deploy cross-platform AI solutions with reduced overhead
Predibase’s focus on open source and developer-first design aligns with Rubrik’s mission to give enterprises more control over data governance while exploring generative AI and automation use cases.
What’s Next?
Rubrik has yet to disclose the timeline for fully integrating Predibase into its enterprise platform. However, experts suggest the move positions the company as a serious contender in the growing AI infrastructure arms race.
