Uber and WeRide Expand Robotaxi Services to 15 New Global Cities
Uber has teamed up once again with Chinese autonomous vehicle pioneer WeRide to expand their robotaxi footprint across the globe. Following a successful launch in Abu Dhabi five months ago, the two companies are set to roll out commercial robotaxi services to 15 new cities over the next five years, with a particular focus on Europe and other regions outside China and the United States.
This strategic collaboration enables Uber users to hail WeRide-powered autonomous vehicles directly through the Uber app. It mirrors Uber’s arrangement with Waymo in the U.S., where Uber oversees the ride-hailing logistics while the AV tech is managed by its partner.
WeRide, which made its Nasdaq debut in late 2024, is working with local operator Tawasul Transport in Abu Dhabi and has plans to enter Dubai next. As the expansion unfolds, cities outside China and the U.S. will be prioritized for deployment.
The move is part of Uber’s broader strategy to integrate autonomous technology into its global mobility services. Over the past two years, Uber has signed more than 15 partnerships with AV tech firms, spanning industries from ride-hailing to freight.
Recently, Uber announced collaborations with May Mobility (U.S.), Volkswagen (Germany), and Momenta (China), showcasing its aggressive push into the self-driving sector.
Meanwhile, Uber and Waymo’s partnership in the U.S. continues to thrive, with autonomous rides now available in Austin and upcoming operations planned in Atlanta.
This global robotaxi expansion signals Uber’s commitment to transforming urban transport through cutting-edge automation, while providing passengers with seamless and safe mobility options powered by WeRide’s robust AV technology.
