Adobe AI assistants are officially here. The company has rolled out intelligent tools for its popular Creative Cloud applications, Adobe Express and Photoshop, bringing AI-powered design and editing to creators of all skill levels. The announcement was made ahead of Disrupt 2025, marking a major milestone in Adobe’s integration of generative AI across its ecosystem.
Unlike traditional sidebars, Adobe Express introduces an entirely new assistant mode that allows users to create images and designs using text prompts. Once the artwork is generated, users can easily switch back to the standard editing interface for fine-tuning. Adobe says this hybrid approach offers both accessibility and creative control — appealing to students, professionals, and casual creators alike.
Photoshop’s Intelligent Editing Boost
Meanwhile, the Photoshop version of the Adobe AI assistants enters closed beta testing. Integrated into the sidebar, it understands layers and helps users automatically select objects, create masks, and perform repetitive tasks like removing backgrounds or changing colors. Adobe claims these new assistants will significantly speed up complex workflows while maintaining precision in image editing.
Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s VP of Generative AI, said the goal is to simplify design while preserving creativity: “Switching between two modes gives users the best of both worlds — intuitive control and powerful automation.”
Project Moonlight and ChatGPT Integration
Adobe also teased Project Moonlight, an experimental system designed to connect different AI assistants across its creative suite. This feature aims to coordinate workflows between apps such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Illustrator — even syncing with creators’ social media channels to understand their unique styles.
Additionally, Adobe revealed plans to link Adobe Express with ChatGPT via OpenAI’s integration API. This will allow users to generate complete design projects directly inside ChatGPT, expanding creative flexibility and AI collaboration.
The company is further enhancing its generative fill and object masking features by adding support for third-party AI models, including Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash and Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext.
With these updates, Adobe AI assistants are set to redefine how creators design, edit, and collaborate — combining creativity with intelligent automation to usher in a new era of digital artistry.
