Ed Sheeran has officially confirmed that he and his family are leaving the UK and moving to the United States. The Shape of You singer, 34, made the announcement during an interview on the 2 Johnnies podcast, where he shared plans to relocate to the US with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their two daughters, Lyra and Jupiter.
The family, currently living in a £3.7 million estate in Suffolk, dubbed Sheeranville, will soon be making the big move. The estate, complete with a gym, pool, and even a tree house, has been a base for Ed’s creative work, where he’s written many of his hit songs. However, with his upcoming tour in the US, Ed stated, “I’m just about to move to America. I feel like I might be the only person moving to America. I’m going on tour there for a while, and I have a family, so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there.”
While America offers plenty of new opportunities, there’s one thing Ed will truly miss — Ipswich Town. The musician, who owns a 1.4% stake in the club, admitted that his love for Ipswich Town FC runs deep. “I went to almost every game last season,” he said. “I think I can only make one this season because I’m moving to the States.”
The US move comes after the release of his new album, Play, set to drop on September 12. Ed has hinted before about his desire to relocate, and while it’s unclear which city or state in the US he’s heading to, he’s expressed a particular fondness for Nashville, a city he has always dreamt of moving to for a transition into country music.
Having grown up in Suffolk, Ed has often spoken about his love for the area, and the song Castle on the Hill is a tribute to the county where both he and Cherry were raised. The couple first met as children, reconnected in New York in 2015, married in 2018, and welcomed their first child in 2020.
